Sometimes the only thing that you need to worry about is yourself. Are you the type of person that sometimes finds simple tasks like making the bed difficult? If this is not you, count yourself lucky but I’m here to tell you that even you might struggle with self improvement. The phrase I’m going to better myself is so common and it seems that it is said almost exclusively around the new year. Yet, as is our nature as humans, we tend to fall out of our own set disciplines and rest on our comfortable laurels. That’s totally fine. You work hard. Life is challenging. Sometimes the last thing that we want to do is cook dinner after 8+ hours of work. The only thing is that one day you might find that you really never have anything in your fridge because you’re ordering in every day. You might even forget your mothers apple pie recipe. We don’t want that to happen for you. In fact no matter how far you have fallen into a spiral like behavior, there will always be a way out.

Why not try to do something new. Cook a new recipe, write your thoughts down in a journal, even play with Lego or start a puzzle. Our brains need constant stimulation. Simple things like this, even for as little as ten minutes a day can help you reduce stress and help you though those slump times.

Notice how I didn’t say drink. Now sure you can get creative with mixology and I will be posting recipes that we can do together but I highly advise against using alcohol as any form of a dependent substance. If you have a ritual already may I suggest that you instead try making a non-alcoholic beverage instead to help replace that ritual. I understand that there is stigma against almost everything in our lives today but the sooner that we can get over that, the better we will enjoy our time more. N/A beverages can be incredibly complex and making them is an incredible way to get out of our heads and do something for ourselves instead of worry all day.

This is one of my first ever N/A cocktails and it is still to this day an absolute favorite of mine still. It’s a very simple take on a pressed juice that my fiancée love to make when we are both a little under the weather. Using apple cider or unfiltered apple juice as the base you add a ginger syrup and fresh lemon juice to it. Top it off with cayenne pepper dust and garnish with a dehydrated apple or lemon wheel. And that is it. Super easy and incredibly fresh with a nice bite from the ginger and pepper.

  • 3oz of apple cider or unfiltered apple juice
  • 1/2oz of fresh lemon juice
  • 1oz of ginger syrup
  • cayenne pepper to desired amount
  • shake and strain into a coup glass
  • garnish with a dehydrated apple or lemon wheel
